The Word Your Lamp
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path….
It’s amazing how you can be doing the most common thing and the most uncommon person on the planet, Holy Spirit decides to talk in that moment. I had hit a wall in my blog writing and BAM out of no where comes inspiration while I was walking of all things. I decided to walk the steep hill in my neighborhood. Up and down, up and down. As I came up, the sun was almost setting and I thought I better get back. As I stepped and looked behind me, I noticed that the street lights behind me were coming on. I thought to myself, “don’t be out here when it gets dark, Steph”. So up the hill I went further hoping to get at least three cycles in before dark. I kept looking down at the pavement thinking just focus focus you can make it to the top of the hill. This is a steep hill and it was kicking my you know what.
So up I go, one step, then two, then ten, then 30! Whew…that’s when the Teacher began to speak.
I looked up at just the right time and noticed the next black street light was slowly lighting up. Then I heard these words,
“My word is a lamp unto your feet and a light to your path”
Just as my feet made the next step the street light came on at the very moment the Holy Spirit began to talk. I knew a lesson was about to happen. The classroom was open. I walked down the street to my house and thought about a verse I had heard in my lifetime hundreds of times. But, this time, I knew the verse meant more. I knew I was about to “see” something I had not see before in a verse I had heard many times.
I got to my office and thought the word is a lamp. The word is a lamp. Lamp to my feet. How is a lamp for my feet? I knew there was something deeper in that. You don’t use a real lamp at your feet. Do you? Then it says its a light to my path. Hmm. I kept thinking and mulling it over.
Then I thought focus on the purpose of each of these items. Lamp, light, path, feet. The purpose of a lamp is to give light in darkness or give light to a dark place. Any place. A lamp has a lot of uses. Light does the same thing. It gives illumination and makes the dark no longer light. Light, just a little light can be seen and will show up and make a difference in a dark place. Now path. A path is a marked out place you have treaded or someone else. It shows you way to go. Even if you don’t know the final location. It is a path. Feet. Feet hold you up. Feet take you where you want to go usually. Feet walk in many many places and they are the lowest things on our body. But one of the most important. If you do not have your feet you really won’t be able to go freely anywhere. You will have to have help from others, a prosthetic, wheel chair, something. But you will not have the freedom you would from your own feet.
The word of God is true and it will be a lamp. It will give you clarity. The word as a lamp will show you direction and it will light up just enough of the path that your feet are on. It will help you to take the next step sometimes two, but probably no more than that. The word does just what a lamp does in room. It shows you what all is in the room. The word will show you what is in your life. It will show you where you are going and if it is the wrong direction. It will show you what you need to do and what needs attention. It will light up the truth. A lamp also shows you all the stuff in a room that you don’t want to see. You know, the dirt on floor, the dust bunnies behind the dresser, you get the picture. When the lights are off you see NONE of those things. But when the lights are on, you see it all.
Turning a light on in a room also can inspire motivation. Change. Show you what you need to address or touch up.
A lot of time in our life we spend ignoring what the light wants to reveal.
Let the light of the word show you, illuminate to you what God wants to address and walk that path to the plan of God for you life.
