What’s Your Amen
Sometimes, God uses the everyday common thing in life to get our attention to a truth in His word.
Today, I experienced an unusual weather moment. It was just about sunset and as the sun was setting the sky turned orange in color and I could hear thunder in the distance. The sky didn’t really look like it was going to storm or rain or anything. There were a few dark clouds but for the most part, most of the sky was blue and cloudy to the east. It was a beautiful sunset evening.
Next thing I knew a nice steady shower was coming down, almost out of nowhere. It was the kind of rain that when you were a kid you could just stand in it and tilt your head back and hold out your tongue. It would hit your face very calmly at a very slow pace to where you almost could feel each drop one by one. It was coming straight down to the earth. Not even the wind was blowing it.
It was raining so peacefully that it caught my attention.
I stood in my door and watched for a few moments as the rain gently fell and the setting sun was shining right through each raindrop on the street and then I heard these words…..
“For as the rain and the snow come down from the heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire and without succeeding in the matter for I sent it.” — Isaiah 55:10-11
I just let that word settle into my consciousness and my spirit and I continued to watch the rain come down in what almost seemed like a slow motion fall to the earth. Then I began to think to myself about the part of the verse that God said, “as the rain and snow come down”. What does that really mean to me. As the rain falls? In our normal day we actually think of the rain as a nuisciance sometimes. We get down on the weather when it rains because usually it is messing up some plans we have. Right? But today, the rain was welcomed.
This part of the verse rolled around inside me as I watched and I began to think what does the rain and snow do when it falls. Well the verse tells me what it does. The rain and snow gives the earth a progressive miracle. It waters the earth and makes it bear and sprout and give seed to us, the sower and we get bread from it. It causes a progression. Like a chain reaction. One thing happens first, then another, and then another and we reap a harvest. And, that rain and that snow do NOT go back up to heaven until it accomplishes this on the earth. It is on assignment.
Well God said that the spoken word that He gives out of His mouth will do the same thing. His spoken word is on assignment in a progression too. It is working in your life every single day even though you may not see it. It will do what He desires and will succeed in whatever issue He sends it to. WOW!
You should be really excited about that. That is a promise. Every time you see a rainfall or see the snow shower you should remember that every promise that God gives to you, is linked to the promise of rain and snow falling. Whatever He said out of His mouth to you….WILL HAPPEN.
That gives me such hope because I have some big stuff I am waiting to see God do. That word, that promise that God gives, it comes and it does like the rain. It nourishes whatever is dry and dead in your life. It gives life to the barren places of your life or family. His word fills the hungry soul. It gives you strength, it heals you like rain heals the land.
“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God” – 2 Corinthians 1:20
There are a lot of promises God has given to us and no matter how many there are, they are yes in Christ. Not in you, not in your strength, not in all your striving. But only in Christ and when you and I say “amen” meaning we say yes Lord I agree with that promise, we get it. Then we will see the manifestation for His glory. See, the verse has a condition. God says yes, but we have speak that we agree with the promise He gives, to see the glory of God.
Be encouraged. When you feel you can’t hold on one more day, one more situation and you have a promise, think of the rain and say Amen.
