What Is Your Identity Rooted In?
Have you really thought about what your identity is rooted in? Your identity is very important to who you are and how you see yourself. Do you find yourself often angry with others because you are trying to get something from other people or asking them to give you something that only God can give you?
Is your identity rooted in being the smart one, the pretty one, the one with all the answers for everyone, the lonely one, the divorced one, the broke one, the sick one, the angry one or the fearful one. Is that you?
Are you ready to learn your God given identity and get past the wordiness of that phrase and find out what it really means for your own life and stop living a false identity with all the anxiety and stress and truck load of issues.
We hear it all the time our identity is in Christ! Well what does that mean really. Do you know who you really are? Do you know why you are?
I want you to think about what you identify with. Make a list of these things and think about why you identify with them. What would you feel if they were not a part of your life?
God looks at you and sees Jesus or at least that is what He is supposed to see. Your life has value because you are His. Nothing else. Knowing who you are is the most important question you can answer in your life.
Is not knowing this effecting your life in a negative way. Most people have not thought about their own identity and not living as God wants them to live. Most people haven’t thought about what they truly believe and why.
How can you find your identity in Christ?
How can you find your identity? Your identity is who you are. Your identity is how you see yourself in relation to others and how you view the world. It’s the characteristics that define you as a person.
Christ is at the core of your identity. He is the one who shows you who you are and only through Him do we know who we are and live what He called us to be.
But when you begin with Christ, you find the core of who you are. He is the truest way to discovering and embracing who you are. He is the only way to living out our lives in true freedom and being who He has called us to be.
Meaning of Your Identity in Christ
What is the meaning of the phrase “identity in Christ”?
2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, “anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
When you give your life to Christ you become a new person. We are all sinners in desperate need of a Savior. When you don’t accept Jesus into your life you are no different than the world and their identity. God made all of us but becoming His child is when we choose to accept Him in our hearts as Savior.
When we accept Him, He takes out the world and its identity and helps us to live in His identity and calls us His own.
Let me give you three tips to finding your identity in Christ.
3 Tips for Finding Your Identity in Christ
Let me give you three tips for finding your identity in Christ.
One, you must begin to reject the world’s behaviors. Rejecting worldly behaviors and customs is imperative in embracing your true identity in Christ.
Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
If you’re not careful, you can easily merge with the world without even realizing it. To prevent this you must fix your eyes on Jesus and make Him your gaze at all times in your heart.
Two, remember what God says about you. God calls you mighty and powerful and His word lives inside of you. Finding your identity in Christ is key to living in what He says about you.
Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”
You are wonderfully made by the Father and He knows you very well. Psalms 139:14 says, “I will give thanks to you, for I am awesomely and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and my soul knows that very well.” He wants you to declare that over your life.
You have God’s approval and because of that you do not need the approval of the world.
Three, only trust God and rely on Him. Trust God and live for Him everyday. Rely on His truth and love in your life and what He tells you about yourself.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
God is always with you and a mighty force of protection. He can be trusted with your life and your decisions as well as your future.
