How to Encourage Yourself
Are you having a difficult time right now and do you need some encouragement. So did David in the Bible.
David and his men had been away on the battle field when they returned home to Ziklag, only to find that their enemies, the Amalekites, had taken everything. They had stolen their wives, children and everyone else from their camp. Then the Amalekites burned everything to the ground.
David and his men in the Bible says they “wept, until they could weep no more”. Then bitterness set in. David’s men were so bitter about what had happened, that they began to talk among themselves about killing David and wanted to stone him to death.
David became discouraged. He needed encouragement. Just like we do when we get discouraged in a trial.
The Bible says that David got very distressed. Have you been there?
But it’s what David did next that is vitally important. He encouraged himself in the Lord his God. He chose to come out of this situation by encouraging himself. This act turns around his entire situation.
How can you encourage yourself in the Lord?
Let me give you a few things to consider that you will need to make this step when the pressure of life is raging.
Spend time in His presence worshipping and praising Him. Get quiet before the Lord. Wait for His presence before you start praying. Let Him quicken you then start talking to Him.
Fill your home with worship music, quiet music.
One of the most important things you can do is speak the word of God. Let the word of God come out of your mouth anytime you feel weary, lost, discouraged, defeated, alone, confused, etc.
Here is a list of Scriptures to encourage you. Use this list anytime you feel you need to be encouraged!
