If You Had 20 Days Left to Live?

Have you ever thought about how many days you have left on the earth? Probably. But not everyday.

It is something we just don’t like to think about but we all know we have coming. I am asking this because last year in 2021 I had a plumbing issue. My kitchen sink was totally clogged. I mean nothing was getting this thing unclogged. I put a post of out for help and someone replied right away that they had a friend that could help me. She said her friend’s husband would come. Didn’t ask him, didn’t check with him just said “Stephanie he will be there”.

I was so grateful.

Not long after this a very nice gentleman came and began to work on my sink. He was so nice and kind it was striking. He assured me he would get it unclogged and working again. Well after a few minutes he couldn’t get it unclogged and he had to go home and get a bigger snake to unclog it. 

He left and came back and got the work done. He barely charged me and was even willing to help another friend of mine who was a single mom with her issues in her plumbing as well. 

I needed some more work done on an upstairs tub but said I would use him again in a few weeks. I paid the man and he left.

I remember when he left that I was so moved with how kind he was and helpful. It was just a joyful experience to have met him. 

I went back to my life and I put down on the calendar to call him in a few weeks to get the tub work done. When that date came I was finally ready to have the work done so I called the number I had for him. By the way his name is Jerry. So let’s call him Jerry. 

I tried to reach Jerry for about a week. I got no response.  Finally after a week of this, his wife text me back these words — “hey if you are trying to reach Jerry, I am sorry to say that he passed last Thursday in a tragic head on car accident on the way to work.” 

WHAT! I was floored. I was hurt. I was shocked. I was just undone to hear this about a man I barely met only for a little while in my home… just 20 days earlier. I looked up when he was as my house and the day he died was exactly 20 days later. 

This moved me so much and got me to think about my own life. Just like I am telling you. I had never met anyone that touched me with such kindness as this man did and then to find out he was dead 20 days later. 

The thought kept running through my heart—- this man only had 20 days left on this earth. What if you knew you had 20 days left what would you do with your life? How different would it look? How would your life change? I was doing some heart examining. 

So I ask you, what if you knew you had 20 days left to live? How would your life change? Would you live differently? But let’s say you have 20 years left. What are you going to do with your life? Are you going to live your dreams? Are you going to show up for your own life and dreams? Would you live like heaven was over the horizon?
