Study: Disciplines of a Godly Woman Series
March 7
Welcome to discipline #5 – Study.
Western Christianity is filled with may resources and information on the Bible and Bible topics. We have so much freedom of things to choose from. We are full to overflowing with material to get our biblical wheels flowing.
Yet, with all these resources we can still be behind and not educating ourselves in the area of biblical understanding. Why?
Because we get lazy and depend on someone else to learn for us. This, my friend, is the wrong answer. Why?
Because you and you alone are responsible for your learning and growth in the scriptures. You must put in the hard work of studying the Bible. That is where the discipline of study comes in. Study is a gift you give yourself.
Far too many Christians have let this discipline slip in their lives. They have learned to rely on someone else’s study of Scripture instead of doing the hard work of studying the Scriptures for themselves.
Arabah Joy said, “Sadly enough, we don’t even realize our level of compromise, designating just about anything as “Bible study,” from fill in the blank workbooks, to reading someone’s book that includes a few Scripture references on a topic.
Nothing compares to you just sitting down and digging into the scriptures for yourself.
I am working on a new series of teachings for women called Titus 2 Collection and study is one of the things that a godly woman must do. She must know how to study the Bible for herself on a daily basis personally and not have the word always coming through someone else. (more on Titus 2 Collection later)
Let me give you six reasons (even though there are many more) why you need to add the discipline of study to your life:
1. You will receive direction for your life.
The Bible says in Psalms 119:105, that His word is a lamp unto our feet and a light to our path. When you don’t know the way to go, His word will guide you and give you direction. The way will be made plain to you by His word. You can be confident the God will show you and clarity will come.
2. It Strengthens Your Faith
Romans 10:17 says, So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. When you study the Word of God your faith increases a lot! You will know what is truth and what is not. You will gain a level of discernment you never had before. You will know the truth and that will keep your faith going in the hard times.
3. You Build Up a Resistance to Sin & Temptation
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalms 119:11 When you study the word of God you get inner strength to say no to things that could or will lead you into sin. The more you store the word up in your heart the stronger you become. The less likely you are to slip.
4. You Get Instruction for Life
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Tim. 3:16-17. The Bible is one of the best instruction manuals you can live by. Every answer you will ever need is held within its pages. It’s the only book to bring instruction, correction, reproof and training in how to live your life.
5. You Will Get Clarity in Your Thoughts and Hidden Motives
Motives of the heart is a serious matter as well as why we do what we do with clarity. When you study the Bible it has a way of getting to the heart of a matter in your heart unlike anything else. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” God knows you better than you know you. His word allows you to see your real motivation behind things. It checks you and guards your intentions.
6. Equips You to Stand in the Face of Spiritual Warfare
Studying the Bible helps you to learn how to fight the good fight of faith. It teaches you how to war in the spirit against the enemy and how to win. You will need all the Bible teaches you to fight against the real enemy. You will learn to persevere and do it without doubt or fear. You will learn to be more than a conqueror as it says in Romans 8:31-39.
There are many more reasons to study the Bible. But the point is to get started, dive in and grow.
Comment on this blog back to me if you have ways you can add this to your life
