Summertime Series: Withdrawals & My Favorite Place
Well, it’s been a few weeks for me since I stopped mindless scrolling. Well let me tell you….. I got withdrawals in the beginning but I seemed to have leveled out now. I LOVE IT!
So what have I been doing?
I have been going through withdrawals by going to my favorite place. So if you know me well you may know what that place is. I love it. It makes me feel alive and free and inspires me. It calls my name.
Yep a bookstore! Barnes and Nobel to be exact.
Since I took the big dump off social media mindless scrolling I have had a lot more time to think. Now that took a while. I don’t mean the thinking I mean the real introspective type thinking and doing it with clarity. I was so jumbled from all the information I took in online, it took about two week to get all the stuff out of my head and my spirit man. Then I could think about myself, my goals, my dreams, my future and more and not feel totally overwhelmed.
Yal, I was on such overload just thinking about what to cook for breakfast, lunch or dinner was a stressor. Now that is bad. It was getting hard to make even simple decisions. But God is so faithful. Sometimes you have to step back and listen to His still quiet small voice and you will see exactly what you need to do.
So What About the Withdrawals
Well, the withdrawals are still here and it’s been about 2-3 three weeks off social media. I think it will be a thing for a while because of the society we live in.
So what am I gonna do? I’m gonna stay disconnected the way I said in the earlier blog because I am starting to see the creative flow again. I have some new ideas for the new Bible study series I am writing.
So, on Saturday I was feeling all the withdrawals of not scrolling and no friends to go to the store with me (cuz I don’t know many people that can’t just get lost in every isle of Barnes and Noble with me) I left and drove the 40 min to my favorite place. It was heaven to me. As I enter the store, as I always do, I stop and take in a sniff of the books and stand there and say “I will be in here on the shelf too.” That is my little mantra I have said for years.
I took my time as I looked up and down ever isle. I wanted to find a really good read in the biography section. Since I write memoir for clients I seem to love reading about other people and their lives. I found an associate to help me but didn’t find a book I loved that screamed “take me home” so I looked in the fiction section and came up short too. Needless to say this was not helping with the withdrawals. So, I went to the journals, Bibles and pens section and hit pay dirt. I got a new journal, because I am a journal junkie and a new pen and I was thrilled.
So, for fun, let me share with you 10 things I bet you didn’t know about me but might find interesting. I am trying things out this summer to bring more joy into my life. So chatting with you in my blog is one of them. Here goes….
