The Writing Process & My Groove
Writing my book is not as easy a goal as I thought. Sure I have the words, a lot of words in my head but the process is more daunting. But, don’t worry, I won’t be quitting. I am just finding my groove.
I learned a lot of things so far in the process of achieving your dreams and goals and just thought I would share them here.
HOW TO ACHIEVE YOUR DREAM OR GOAL
1. I need help. I need to be surrounded by other people that write too. I need other people in my sphere of influence that want the same goal and dream as me. That keeps me inspired. That also means that I needed to cut back from some people that were not going for a dream or goal. We hate to say that about people. But the truth is there are some people that are not reaching for anything. They are just living and existing from day to day. They have potential inside of them but they are not using it. I cannot be one of those people. I must use my gifts. But, to use them effectively and for the glory of God (because that is the ultimate reason) I need to stay inspired and that means sometimes being with others that are reaching for a dream too. Read about them, talk to them, follow them, get mentored by them. I may need to take a course of some kind to get more skills or tools. I may need to log in to a webinar instead of watching tv that night to learn how to market my book or write my book. Whatever the help seek it out and keep going.
2. I need discipline. Now this is a word that most do not like. Why? Because we really hate discipline. We think it steals our freedom. It costs us something and usually that cost is more than we want to pay. Right? Well, to get my books written I am going to need discipline. I am going to have to say “no” to a lot of things to get the dream to come to pass. That will take will power and sheer determination on my part. I will have to sit in front of my laptop and not be able to hang out with girlfriends or watch my tv show (thank technology for tivo and dvr and dvds and digital). I won’t be able to join certain events or outings. I may not be able to even lead certain groups that I want to lead or be a part of. I may have to give up time with my family to write. That means closing the door to my office and not be disturbed. I may have to get off social meia and my phone, and email for a set time each day to write. One thing is for sure I will have to build discipline into my daily schedule to get out of my daily schedule what I want. Discipline is costly.
3. I need the word of God. This is a big one for me. I need the word of God to help me write. I need to know it front and backwards and study it and rely on it. That takes more time more discipline. I need to pray and spend time with God to get my books out of my soul and onto the paper. Every good and perfect gift comes for God and to honor Him with my writing I need to go to Him to see what He wants to say that day I am creating on paper. I need to get His heart for my book so that it is effective for all those that will read it. I need God to help me write. You will need God for whatever you are doing for Him also.
4. I need balance. I need fun, I need structure, I need goals, I need to dream, I need to eat right, I need exercise… I need. But I need them all and more in balance. The word of God says that balance is the key to life. It is true. We need to have all things in as much balance as we can get them. Too much of anything is not good. God said so. So how do we achieve this balance. You use moderation for everything. I write some, I play some. I eat right then I eat what I want. I exercise then I rest some. You get the picture. I need to be with friends then I need to pull back from friends and write. I need to dream but them I need to put the dream into motion and stop dreaming and act on it. Balance is tricky and yet essential.
Finally,
5. I need vision. Vision is what is going to get you to your destination. You need to see in your minds eye your dream coming to pass. Create a visual that you can look at. I am in the process now of getting a logo for a ministry idea I am launching in September 2015 and a cover for my book. Why? Because I need to see them with my name on it for it to be a reality for me. Vision takes you where your heart wants to go. Vision gives you power and strength. IF you can see it you can obtain that thing. Our imaginations come from God and they are powerful tools to achieve His destiny on our lives. So get some vision.
Writing books of all kinds is my hearts desire . I am finding my groove and learning in the process and enjoying it. I have a big dream and big goals and they will come to pass and you will say ..”we knew her when!”
